Steve Greene - Connective Tissue

Monument HV is pleased to present Connective Tissue, a solo exhibition of paintings by Steve Greene. In this new body of work, Steve continues to explore the physicality of paint in line and color with abstract structures that recall maps, diagrams, the human body and the cosmos.

“My paintings are made up of abstract lines and shapes on a flat surface, but they depict the illusion of things in an artificial space - I just don’t always plan or know what those things are. Meandering heavy lines are interrupted by points and dots which function as abstract hubs or ports. They connect to each other and create an object space that adheres only to the internal logic of the painting, referring to things and states of being in the real world, but never illustrating a specific solid, liquid, gas, or consciousness. Fleeting time, the joys of love and nature, the insignificance of our tiny planet, and the wholeness that’s way too big - I am looking for the connective tissue that holds things together.”

SHELF SHOW - OPEN CALL!

ABOUT:

Before MONUMENT re-opened in March, Rich began building a series of bookstands for the shop, a kind of functional art he dubbed N.M.T., or not much thought. Using found wood pieces from the scrap pile and whatever would hold them together, we wound up with a bunch of stands that get the job done and make us smile. A morning-pages style response to a need. We got hooked on these fun, useful works of art and the process, too...the materials shine, the art is put to use, and fewer of our scraps head to the landfill.

We decided to translate this idea into...MONUMENT's very first OPEN CALL FOR ARTWORK !
